In 2018, the Jaap Schouten Foundation established a new award supporting social projects and innovations in medicine. The deep connection to Rotterdam and the sea felt by the founder of this Dutch organization inspired us to take a North Sea buoy as the symbol for the award. Award winners receive a unique framed photograph of the vintage buoy we sourced from a Dutch shipyard. Besides appearing in mailings, menus, and programs, the actual buoy is onstage during award ceremonies. This unique, sustainable, and flexible solution aligns perfectly with the foundation’s values.
